Autumn

September

Bats in a treeMyself and the other ladies from our colony like to enjoy autumn after all our hard work raising our babies during the summer. I might have a date this month with Ben’s Dad, he usually roosts in a nice tree down by the river. Mind you, we all have to eat a lot at this time of year to make sure we have enough fat to last a long, cold, hungry winter. And finding lots of insects to eat is hard work – we can’t just pop into the grocery shop like you humans can! The nights are starting to get colder so we don’t stay out flying as late as we did during the summer.

October

Bat flying around a pumpkin cartoonOooh – the weather is really starting to get chilly! I’ve found a lovely crevice in the stone wall of an old farm building, it stays nice and cool all the time in here. In the summer I like a warm place to stay but in winter I prefer somewhere cool so I can hibernate. I’m spending more time each night getting sleepier and sleepier. I got woken up the other day when there were lots of banging noises and fireworks, my friend told me that it was Hallowe’en for humans.

November

Yawn! I really am hibernating now … too sleepy to talk.
